The SHRC asks equity partners for brief annual reports, and publishes its own reports summarizing the information provided by equity employers and educational institutions.
Partner reports show the progress of individual sponsors and ensure public accountability of approved plans. Reports also enable partners to flag accomplishments, share information, and note common concerns.
To ensure their plans are effective, organizations need concrete, measurable goals and ways of assessing progress towards them. Goals may be quantitative or qualitative. In the employment area, the Commission looks at Statistics Canada data to determine the make-up of Saskatchewan's working age population. This data gives a picture of a representative workforce in Saskatchewan, and employers may use preferential measures until representative workforce levels are reached. Qualitative goals include subjective factors such as job satisfaction and positive working relationships.
In the area of education, quantitative indicators of success could include graduation rates, the post-graduation success of students in employment or advanced studies, and the representation of equity group members in teaching and non-teaching positions. Qualitative indicators could include the educational experience of equity groups, or success at overcoming racism and other obstacles. The SHRC is working with educational partners to establish appropriate indicators of success.
