International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation 2023

February 6, 2023

The Government of Saskatchewan has declared February 6, 2023, as “International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation” in Saskatchewan.

In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly designated this date as International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation in an attempt to amplify and direct the efforts on the elimination of this practice in communities and countries around the world.

The UN is striving for full eradication of the practice by 2030. To promote the elimination of female genital mutilation, the UN urges coordinated and systematic efforts that focus on human rightsgender equality, sexual education and attention to the needs of women and girls who suffer from its consequences.
