International Women’s Day 2022

March 8, 2022

In 1975, the United Nations declared March 8 as International Women’s Day. Forty-seven years later, the day encourages a celebration of  the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements and contributions of women and girls in society. It also remains a day of reflection and recognition of the struggles and challenges women and girls continue to face.

In Saskatchewan, though significant strides have been made, gender equality does not exist. Women, girls, transgender women and gender-non-conforming people continue to face hardships and discrimination.

The theme for International Women’s Day 2022 acknowledges these struggles and asks us each to #BreakTheBias. This is a call for a society free from bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A society that is equal, equitable, and inclusive.
