International Women’s Day 2023

March 8, 2023

The Government of Saskatchewan has designated March 8 as International Women’s Day in Saskatchewan.

As we celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements and contributions of women and girls in society, it is important to recognize the challenges women and girls continue to face, and to take action to ensure equality.

The theme for International Women’s Day 2023 – “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality” – speaks to the need for an equitable digital future.

While the digital age has created unprecedented opportunities for the empowerment of women and girls, it has also introduced new forms of inequality and increased threats to their rights and well-being. Women and girls around the world remain underrepresented in the creation and regulation of technology. They are less likely to enter or maintain a tech-related career, and more likely to face online threats and harassment.

Today, on International Women’s Day 2023, our goal must be to build a better digital world – a world in which innovation and technology are intentionally leveraged so that resources and opportunities are more equitably distributed.
