Israel’s Amassador to Canada, His Excellency Rafael Barak, attended the Saskatoon office of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission on Friday, October 17.

The Ambassador, already in Saskatoon to promote new partnerships between the Canada-Israel Industrial Research Development Foundation, the Government of Saskatchewan, and the Embassy of Israel in Canada, gave the SHRC staff and invited guests an overview of Canada-Israel relations, his perspective on tensions in the Middle East, and the need for joint research and development partnerships.

Ambassador Barak also spoke about the pressing need to address racism, and in particular, anti-Semitism. He remarked that the, “best remedy for anti-Semitism is education.” In light of this observation, he also noted that the SHRC’s citizenship education resource materials are a proactive way to foster positive attitudes in multicultural societies.
