Long time Commissioner, Jan Gitlin, will be stepping down from her position with the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission effective immediately.<\/p>\n

“In her role as Commissioner, Jan always offered fair and considered opinions on human rights issues and her perspective has always been of great value,\u201d said SHRC Interim Chief Commissioner Barry Wilcox, K.C. \u201cShe is clearly a person of integrity and principle. Her commitment to human rights and advocacy for social justice have helped make our communities and the province in general a better place to live.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gitlin was appointed to the Commission in 2011.<\/p>\n

As a Saskatchewan Human Rights Commissioner, Gitlin played an instrumental role in the formation of the Concentus Citizen Education Foundation \u2013 a citizenship education program designed to educate and empower individuals to understand their rights and to be responsible, respectful, participatory citizens committed to justice in our multicultural, pluralistic society.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe success of the Commission during her tenure was in no small part due to her energy, dedication, and tenacity,\u201d said Wilcox. \u201cIn her resignation letter, Jan stated that after 12 years she believed it was time to move on. As much as the Commission will miss her, I know that numerous other organizations will benefit from Jan\u2019s efforts and expertise in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
