On October 21, 2013, Saskatoon City Council approved 5 new temporary accessible taxi licenses.  These licenses will increase the total number of accessible taxis from 16 to 21 within the overall taxi fleet.

The temporary accessible licenses were awarded to three taxicab companies operating in the city.  These licenses revert back to the city for redistribution after five years.  In addition to the increase in accessible taxis, the city is increasing the monitoring of the accessible taxi service to ensure appropriate customer service.

The Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission (SHRC) was pleased to offer input into the provision of accessible taxi services in the City of Saskatoon.  Increasing the availability of accessible public and for hire transportation also increases opportunities for people with disabilities to fully participate in the community.
