Philippine Independence Day 2021

June 12, 2021

June 12, 2021, marks the 123rd anniversary of Philippine Independence Day. As Filipinos around the world celebrate the commemoration of the declaration of their inherent and inalienable right to freedom and independence, we join them in celebration and recognize the many meaningful contributions and rich cultural contributions Filipinos have made to Saskatchewan society.

“I am grateful for how the Filipino community has helped economic and social development prosper all over the province – a province they now call home,” said Commissioner Mike San Miguel. “All Filipinos now have the opportunity to enjoy and celebrate freedom while we share our culture with all Saskatchewanians. To the hundreds of Filipino front line and essential workers, I salute you for all your sacrifices and for keeping us safe during the long battle against COVID-19, Mabuhay!”

According the most recent data, Filipino-Canadians are the fastest-growing community in Saskatchewan. In Saskatoon, Tagalog (an official language of the Philippines) ranks as the second most common language in the city, next to English.
