SHRC Interim Chief Commissioner Wilcox statement on the resignation of Heather Kuttai

October 19, 2023

It is very unfortunate that Heather Kuttai has felt it necessary to resign from the Commission, but I understand and have great respect for her decision. It takes true strength and determination to take such definitive action.

I have worked with Heather at the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission for the last nine years and during that time she has not only provided the Commission with sage wisdom but has also become a personal friend. I am saddened by her departure.

In her role as a Commissioner, Heather offered fair and considered opinions on human rights issues, particularly related to gender, disability, and education. Throughout the years, Heather has proven herself to be a person of integrity and principle as she served to protect and promote the rights of people in Saskatchewan. Her commitment to human rights and advocacy for social justice can never be questioned. Her efforts have helped improve our communities and made this province a better place. Both she and her family are true champions for human rights in Saskatchewan.
