The Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission is hosting an online public information session about its Equitable Education for Students with Reading Disabilities initiative on Thursday, March 7 at 6:00pm. Guest speakers for the event will be Dyslexia Canada’s Alica Smith, Dr. Andrea Fraser of Mount Saint Vincent University, Maria Soonias Ali of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission, and Kirsten Downey, one of the 29 parents who filed a group human rights complaint that led to the Commission’s systemic investigation into the identification, treatment, and accommodation of students with reading disabilities in Saskatchewan.

The Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission continues its Employment Equity Partner Lunch and Learn series on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. The guest speaker is Enough Already’s Nicole White. Her presentation – Addressing and Preventing Sexual Harassment in the Workplace – will explore how to identify different types of harassment and how it impacts people in Saskatchewan workplaces. She will also discuss the business case for harassment prevention, help employers and employees better understand their roles in addressing harassment in the workplace, and provide select bystander intervention strategies.

Her presentation is titled: 4to40 – An Inclusive Employment Initiative. During the session, Donna will share the 4to40 story and talk about the difference the program has made in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities, who encounter many barriers – especially attitudinal barriers – to employment and are often overlooked or left out of the workplace.

The Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission continues its online Employment Equity Partner Lunch and Learn series on November 16, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. The Commission’s Director of Systemic Initiatives, Robin Mowat, is the feature speaker. He will present: Human Rights and Hiring Interviews. During the session, Robin will discuss the requirements for employers to avoid discrimination in their hiring processes, including application forms and interviews. This will include information for employers seeking to do preferential hiring in accordance with an equity plan.
